My First Encounter With Death
One day, during my 26 months of service in Vietnam, I was caught in an ambush on Highway One just south of Phu Loc. The driver was wounded, our truck was trapped in the "Kill zone," and much to my surprise, I felt my fear fade away as I looked upon the face of Death. But then, Death turned away, the trucks ahead began to move, and we drove through the ambush with three flat tires and about thirty bullet holes in the truck's cab. Although I suffered no physical harm, my outlook on life was forever changed, perhaps for the better.
But,
we must continue our efforts to resolve the issue of those unaccounted for!
And,
I hope you will visit my comrades whose names adorn the long, black wall of the Vietnam Memorial.
Remember, that while
"All gave some, some gave All."
